December 7th, 2007Super-Hero
December 6th, 2007I failed at Round 1 at trying to convince my two year-old niece to want to be a super-hero instead of a Disney princess, which really got me thinking about what I would wear if I were a super-hero. Definitely studs and velvet.

World Aids Day Dec. 1
November 30th, 2007World AIDS Day is tomorrow, December 1. Why not pick up some Christmas presents for family, friends or yourself from the Product (Red) line. Product (Red) has already donated $50 million to the Global Fund, which gives grants to health programs in Ghana, Rwanda and Swaziland. A list of where you can buy these products is below.
Gap (Red): A great selection of clothing (not all of them are branded with the Red logo) for the whole family. A whopping 50% of profits gets donated.
Apple. A portion of the purchase price of the shuffle ($79) and nano ($199) get donated. If you are planning to give one of these as a present, you might as well buy a red one — it is the same price as the other colors and it looks very nice (my kid brother has the red nano and it looks good).
Converse has ready made sneakers under the Red line, but you also can design your own pair of sneakers on their website. Very cool (but make sure you are doing it under the Red line). 5-15% of profits get donated.
Emporio Armani. Sunglasses, watches, clothing for women and men. Averaging 40% of profits for donation.
Hallmark. How should you be wrapping these gifts? With Hallmark’s Red products. 8% of wholesale sales get donated.

The main domestic issue that really gets me up right now is immigration — I do not understand why so many Americans are anti-immigration. I understand that Representative Tom Tancredo has a campaign ad showing an immigrant in a hoodie sneaking across the border and blowing up a mall? But did any of you see NBC news last night about an illegal immigrant who crossed the border to find a little boy lost in the desert (his mom died in a car crash and he survived). The illegal immigrant shared his jacket with this boy, created a fire during the night so that the boy would not be cold, and sought out border control so that the boy could make it home safe. Story here.
So what type of ethical, hard-working people do we want (1) running our country and (2) being citizens of our country?
That is all, back to fashion . . .
p.s. I love how Daddylikey refers to the Republican debates last night as a debate on “how to keep brown people out of America”. Classic. She follows with some comfy, affordable boots.
Trench Coat
November 29th, 2007The weathermen here are warning that a cold front is coming — temperatures are going to drop from the upper 60s to low 50s, and it is going to be cold (yes, yes, while I was living in New York several people told me that temperatures in the 50s is not cold, but I just thought that they were delusional)(I also like to remind my east-coast friends how great the weather is on the west coast in hopes that they will all move closer to me).
The weathermen are actually making the temperature drop a big deal (those of you living in cold places would be very amused). All it really means is that it is time to consider the trench coat.

November 28th, 2007Brilliant Turquoise
November 27th, 2007Have you ever seen a color so brilliant? I do not know if this is the natural color, or if it has been heated or treated some how, but it is ridiculously stunning. Stephen Webster $17,000. (yes, that is the price — it is bordered by diamonds and set in 18K white gold).

Update on Erin Fetherston’s Target Collection
November 26th, 2007I just went to Target on my way from my parents’ house to mine, and I was quite disappointed to see Erin Fetherston’s collection in real life. The quality of the fabrics and assembly was not the greatest. $30 is $30 — I expect better for that price. I found Target’s Xhilaration and Mossimo brands to be better priced and better quality (and they both have lots of cute stuff). I did buy Erin Fetherston’s Bunny Print Tee, which did not appeal to me when I saw it on the internet but loved when I saw in real life (the bunny print dress is not bad either).
I still love Target’s Go International campaign and think that Target is one of the greatest stores ever — I mean, where else can I buy an Erin Fetherston’s rabbit t-shirt for 16 bucks and lavender smelling Comet to clean by bathtub for 79 cents?
Miu Miu Crystal
November 25th, 2007I am loving Miu Miu’s crystal jewelry line, available pre-order at Saks right now. These little luxuries aren’t priced to put you out on the streets (relative to other designer luxuries), and are perfect splurges. The crystal adorned shoes are quite nice also, but may very well put you out on the streets.
